Goals
The goal of my project is to lead people away from hybrid and electric cars because hybrid-electrics and electric cars actually do more damage to the environment than their gasoline or diesel power counterparts (as demonstrated in my research essay). My project is also to come up with a solution until hydrogen is readily available (to the extent of gasoline or diesel) for cars such as Honda's FCX Clarity, where the only emission is water. My car is important because it should get about 60-65 MPG, is cheap, affordable, has a low-cost maintenance schedule, doesn't use batteries, 0-60 should be around 6 seconds, quicker than any hybrid or electric car on the market (aside form the Tesla, which was made to be a fast electric, mind you, a Prius takes 14 seconds to get to 60 miles an hour) and should be fun to drive. No major car manufacturer offers a $6-7,000 car with the performance or gas mileage my car should be able to achieve. These goals and project fit in with my major because they have to do with one of the greatest engineering achievements of all time: the car. It also has to do with innovating the car into something that is familiar yet radically new. My project give back to the society because it will be cleaner to build than a hybrid, there will be no waste batteries aside from the starter battery, the emissions will be lower than nearly every other car on the market, and will be an inexpensive, not cheap, car.
